Head Teacher's Welcome

Welcome to our new school website. We are a large multicultural Junior School near the centre of Huddersfield.  At Birkby Junior School we work hard to provide a creative, enjoyable and rewarding learning experience for each child in an inclusive, secure and stimulating learning environment.

We are proud of our school community and celebrate the rich and diverse backgrounds of all our pupils.

The Staff and the Governing Body at Birkby Junior School are committed to working together to give children the academic and life skills they will need to be successful.

We care about our Parents and Carers, we welcome your involvement and we look for your support in ensuring good attendance, good behaviour and hard work from your children. We operate an open-door policy and welcome you into the school anytime you would like to talk.  Hopefully you can find all the information you need on our website but if you can’t please feel free to call into school. We will be happy to help you and answer any further questions you may have.

Thank you

Mrs Susan Davis

    Eid celebrations
Dear Parent/Carer, Eid celebrations are on the horizon and we hope that for those of you who celebrate Eid-Ul-Fitr, you are looking forward to the celebrations you have planned. We know that some children will be absent from school when celebrating - these absences will be recorded as Religious Observance. May we remind you that you are allowed up to 3 days off in total for religious observance during any academic year, if the celebration falls on a school day. This also includes time for Eid-Ul-Adha, which we know will fall at the beginning of June this year. We will have to put down an ‘unauthorised absence’ for extra days that the children take off school. As you already know, on Thursday 3rd April, we have our Eid lunch and children can come to school in Eid/casual clothes. Everyone at Birkby Junior School would like to wish you a peaceful and prosperous Ramadan and ‘Eid Mubarak’. Yours sincerely Mrs S Davis Head Teacher

    Academy Trust Update
Dear Parents/Carers, We are pleased to share that the Department for Education has given consent for our school to form an Academy Trust, called Industrious Education Trust. This includes Birkby Junior School, Dalton School, Moldgreen Community Primary School, Ashbrow School, and Mill Lane Primary School. At the moment, we are working with solicitors, education advisors and financial experts to think about a timescale for moving from being a Local Authority School to an Academy. Please be assured all schools will continue to consider that the right decisions are being made for our children and school communities. Thank you for your support. Best regards, Mrs S. Davis Head Teacher
