Sports Premium Funding Breakdown 2023-24

This school academic year 2023/24 we will receive £21,890 (£16000 plus £10 for every child) to:

  1. Develop the PE and sport activities that Birkby Junior School already offers.
  2. Make improvements now that will benefit pupils joining Birkby Junior School in future years.


We will use the funding by:

  • Hiring an in-school sports coach to support the high-quality teaching of PE in school.
  • For the in-school sports coach to support pupils in leading an active and healthy lifestyle, supported by the involvement of parents, extra-curricular activity and targeting of the less active pupils.
  • Utilising the Pennine Sports Partnership to provide all children with the opportunity to take part in both inter-school and intra-school sporting competitions. To also use PSP to improve school’s core services in PE and sport.
  • Gaining wider access to inter-school sporting competition through the booking of transport to events.  

Total funding received 2023-2024

£21,890 (£16,000 plus £10 per child- 589 children)

Amount spent on an in-school sports coach to develop and add to the PE and sport activities in school. To help to make improvements now that will benefit current pupils and pupils joining the school in future years:

  • To support teachers to plan and deliver engaging and up to date PE lessons, to ensure all children receive high quality PE lessons for 2 hours a week (throughout the year).
  • To support focus groups of children (SEN, G&T and inactive children).
  • To support in the organisation and quality of school sports clubs and the opportunities these provide children.
  • To train and support sports leaders within school.
  • To preparing for and support in organising sports competitions.
  • To increase the sporting ethos across school, to motivate children to be active throughout the day, including playtimes and lunchtimes.

Internal sports coach= £17,550

(3 days per week at £150 per day)

 

Membership of the Pennine Sports Partnership who will:

  • Support in upskilling teachers’ subject knowledge and confidence in teaching PE by delivering staff training sessions.
  • Provide more links to inter-school PE competitions.
  • Motivate pupils to take part in, and see the benefits, in sport by running whole school assemblies.
  • To increase teacher confidence at identifying gifted and talented children for sport.
  • To train and provide opportunities for Junior Sports Leaders in and out of school.
  • To provide staff training on how to facilitate and motivate children to access sporting games at playtimes and lunchtimes. To increase their activity levels.
  • To facilitate the school’s participation in the National School Sports Week, with other primary schools, in the summer term.

PSP annual membership=£3604.

To allocate towards transport to sporting competitions.

Swimming

Our Year 5 cohort attended swimming lessons for the academic year 2021-22. Due to COVID 19 the children received swimming lessons at a later time in the year than previously. They received longer lessons over a 6-month period to cover 12 months of taught swimming. Here are the swimming statistics:

This is a significant drop from previous years which is attributed to the impact of COVID.
