Birkby Junior School

Welcome to this special section of our school website, designed solely for our New Year 3 pupils and families who will be joining us in September.

At the moment, we know that it is an especially anxious time for parents, carers and children but we also hope that many of you will be excited about starting school with us too. As our normal transition programme hasn’t been able to go ahead due to the COVID school closures, we have endeavoured to support transition in the best way we can by creating, and making available, lots of information; videos and resources which we hope will help you to prepare your child for life at Birkby Junior School. We have also planned some virtual sessions between our school and Birkby Infant School.

Please take your time to explore this section of the website. We have organised the resources into the following areas:

• Important people – these resources are all about the staff who will be working with your child in year 3;
• Important information for new parents/carers – everything you need to know in preparation for September;
• A virtual tour of the school – follow some of the Year 3 staff around Birkby Junior School by watching the video all about important parts of school;
• Additional transition resources – these are for parents and pupils to use at home and will further support transition to Birkby Junior School.

Children who currently attend Birkby Infant School:

To further support your child's transition from Year 2 to Year 3 in light of the school closures during the Spring Term and COVID restrictions which have affected some of our transition plans, we have taken the decision to keep the new Year 3 classes the same as they are at the Infants.

Children who currently attend a different School (within Kirklees or outside of Kirklees):

We have used all the available information about your child to place them in the class, which we believe, best suits them. Careful consideration has been given to the adult teaching the class and the other children within it. You will know which class your child will be in and who their teacher will be, by referring to your welcome pack sent in the post.
