Head Teacher's Welcome

Welcome to our new school website. We are a large multicultural Junior School near the centre of Huddersfield.  At Birkby Junior School we work hard to provide a creative, enjoyable and rewarding learning experience for each child in an inclusive, secure and stimulating learning environment.

We are proud of our school community and celebrate the rich and diverse backgrounds of all our pupils.

The Staff and the Governing Body at Birkby Junior School are committed to working together to give children the academic and life skills they will need to be successful.

We care about our Parents and Carers, we welcome your involvement and we look for your support in ensuring good attendance, good behaviour and hard work from your children. We operate an open-door policy and welcome you into the school anytime you would like to talk.  Hopefully you can find all the information you need on our website but if you can’t please feel free to call into school. We will be happy to help you and answer any further questions you may have.

Thank you

Mrs Susan Davis

    World Book Day 2026
Dear Parent/Carer, On, Thursday 5th March, it is World Book Day again! We are really excited about our plans as the day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate reading and promote reading for enjoyment. Everyone in school will be taking part in activities centered around reading and we have also organised another drop-in session, following the success of last year's session. During this session, parents, carers and other family members are welcome to come to school to take part in some fun activities. We will be sending more details about this drop-in session closer to the date. On the day, staff in school will be dressing up as characters from their favourite stories and your child is also welcome to come to school dressed as a character from a book if they wish. The World Book Day website has lots of easy, simple ideas for costumes but please feel free to use your own ideas if preferred. Another useful website for easy dressing up ideas is the Made for Mums website https://www.madeformums.com/toddler-and-preschool/last-minute-easy-world-book-day-costumes/. Each child in school will also receive a £1 WBD book token, this token can be used either as a £1 discount on a book or can be exchanged for one of the new 2026 World Book Day texts, specially written by a range of famous authors – some of these can be seen below. If you would also like to get involved with World Book Day at home, their website also has some excellent resources for families to use, please visit the link for more information. https://www.worldbookday.com/families/ Thank you for your support.
